We are essentially a niche high street general practice with multiple offices across the country, specialising in Claimant Personal Injury Litigation and Domestic Conveyancing.
We are currently listed in THE LAWYER UK 200 ANNUAL REPORT. We aspire to be the greatest high street practice in the country. The key to this will be ‘organic controlled expansion’ of the firm’s successful business model. ETHOS
The client comes first at Forster Dean. Nothing should ever be too much trouble for anyone who walks through the door of one of our offices. If we cannot help them then we will lift the phone and put them in touch with someone who can. It’s as simple as that and in order for this to happen it is our duty to put our people first. Lots of businesses say this but how do we at Forster Dean actually put this into practice?
CULTURE
From the outset you can expect to be welcomed as part of the team. The firm has always maintained a family feel to it in the best possible sense. We care passionately about the development of the individuals who help make this wonderful business what it is. Our alchemy will be to maintain and develop that family feel, that personal touch whilst taking the company to the next level.
You can expect responsibility and freedom at an early stage. We trust our team because they have always delivered for our clients. If we get things wrong either with a client or with one of our people, we hold our hands up and do what we can to put things right.
You need to be commercially driven and able to sell yourself to our clients, as it is you who helps to make our brand what it is. If you love dealing with people then you will fit right in. Do not expect to be landed with a huge caseload on day one. By and large we like to ease people into the culture allowing you the time to acclimatise to a better way of life!
A strict 8.45am to 5.00pm culture is in place with a structured and diverse workload that ensures a challenging and rewarding environment for all. We do not want our people to be stressed or anxious. We accommodate flexible working hours for our staff where we can and promote a healthy work life balance.
In William Betts (Property) and Mark Hunter (PI), we have two non-fee earning heads of department in each discipline, whose job it is to make your life easier. They are there for you with an open door.
HOLIDAYS
We love them, do you? Well if the answer is yes then you can almost certainly expect more of them with Forster Dean than you currently enjoy.
As standard we offer 25 days holiday. Your caseload is target driven but those targets are fair and realistic. If you exceed your target by 5% then you will automatically receive 5 extra days holiday (and a bottle of champagne!). We want people to ‘sail over the bar, not crash through it’ and that means that we make our goals realistic.
We have a charity walk every year on a Saturday in June. It’s a great way to say ‘hi’ to all your colleagues whilst raising money for a good cause. Into the bargain the company donates 2 days holiday to everyone who attends.
We close all our offices throughout the Christmas period and open again in the New Year. It’s a well-earned break for everyone and by the way, we insist that all fee earners take a block of at least 2 weeks holiday per year. That way we know you have to relax!
PAY
We pay our people in accordance with what they do. That might sound shallow but if you simply want to hide behind your desk on floor 13 then this is not the place for you!
We constantly review our pay structure to ensure that we offer the most competitive pay possible. Currently as a newly qualified Solicitor in either department you can expect to start on £28k. What happens after that is up to you!
TOOLS OF THE TRADE
Yes we are a high street practice but perhaps not as you know it! Our offices are modern, bright, clean and provide a healthy and relaxing environment within which to work. You will have your own room in an office that is located within the heart of the community that we serve.
Our fantastic fee earners use the latest case management systems across the firm and are aided by an incredible bunch of people whom we call our support staff. Don’t worry if IT is not your forte. We have a dedicated IT team who provide continuous support and training to all our people.
THE FUTURE
As you will know, the legal marketplace is undergoing tremendous change. We view the forthcoming Clementi reforms as a fantastic opportunity for the COMPANY to achieve its goal of becoming the biggest and the best in high street legal services. All we need are ambitious, motivated people to join this wonderful journey.
